FICO Score and new credit - oddity

Arpril - FICO Score EQ 772, hurting my score was "new credit - new account 3 months ago".  So my "Amount of New Credit" was "Good"

July - FICO Score EQ 795, hurting my score was "new credit - new account 6 months ago".  So my "Amount of New Credit" was "NOT Good"

So getting 3 months older makes it go from Good to Not Good?  Smiley Very Happy

It is probably a combination of looking for something to complain about, and being compared to higher scores (a mini re-mangoing)  Smiley Wink

And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Util from 5% to 4%

Re: FICO Score and new credit - oddity

IMHO it is a bug.  I have seen errors in my EX report on a DOLD and I called EX to verify that it was wrong.

BTW your score increase was due to the util change?  If so I have seen no change in going from 9% to 1 % so do you think the effect of util change is score bucket dependant?  I am probably in the major derog bucket and you probably arent.

I am derogless.  I think the change is probably age - all my accounts are now at least 6 months old.  Roll on December when Amex and Toyota hit the 1 year mark!!

I think EQ is a bit different anyway. Might take 24 months to go from new to a helping account. They do not like new credit at all.

Re: FICO Score and new credit - oddity

I have a Visa card that will be 1 year in december so I will watch what happens.  I hardly app at all so I never thought too much about account age.  I will rectify that mistake.

Re: FICO Score and new credit - oddity

Midnight - since you are nearing 800, I am sure the reasons are either 1) Illogical, and/or 2) comparisons to others in your bucket.   Either way, you know so much about credit and credit scoring that I am sure you know what to change to get you closer to the elusive 850..............
