Capitol One now uses FICO 8 score. Is this a good FICO to use to check my credit or is there another FICO score that lenders use? I would like, in the future to refinance my home, apply for a credit card to improve my credit and purchase a new vehicle.
Fico 8 is a good general score and used by plenty of lenders, but there are 3 credit bureaus that will likely have 3 different Fico 8 scores. Then for your mortgage and auto loans, you have the specialty scores on top of that. Plus you have some using Fico 9, or maybe even Vantage. If you just want a general picture of if your credit score is moving in the right direction, what Cap1 is providing is good and reliable. But you can get the other baseline scores for free as well.
Experian, myFico and Creditwise.
