I had an account that had the status line change from
Credit card
Amount in H/C column is credit limit
to
Consumer disputes this account information
Credit card
because there was a fraudulent charge. Scorewatch had a 17 (!!) point increase that day as well. I know most of that increase was for paying down a card from 33% util to 9% and another card that had about 33% util to 0, as well as making sure a few other cards reported a $0 balance.
However, my wife's scorewatch showed a 7 point decrease (the first change in several months) for having an account with a balance (but it didn't mention that it was previously inactive) and the same status change I had.
How many points can be attributed to the status change? Would I have had a larger increase if that staus change was not there? Would my my wife had had a smaller decrease? The last time she had an account report a balance, her score didn't change, and that card should be reporting $0 now, so can the whole 7-point ding be attributed to that status change? Should I have had a 24 point increase, but that status change kept in lower?
I guess we'll know for sure when they update again, but does anyone know if disputing a credit card charge (with the CCC, NOT with a CRA) dings your score?
