High Credit Usage Question

I am getting ready to finish graduate school and trying to get my financial house of cards in order.

I have several credit cards in my name that range from 2-5 years in age, and they are all current with zero balances.

I am also an authorized user on three of my parents' accounts which are all over 10 years in age, yet while they are current, they are all practically maxed out--usage is over 80%.

Due to those accounts, my overall credit usage is currently at 83%.

Would it be better for me to be removed as an authorized user so that I just have my three accounts on my credit?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Re: High Credit Usage Question

Yes. Get removed. The high Util is hurting more than the extra Age gives you

Re: High Credit Usage Question

Agreed with the above.

In addition, once AU is off your reports, you may be penalized for going all zero. You want to report credit usage. Have a $5-$10 statement report. For optimized scoring; aggregate utilization 8.9% or below, individual utilization 28.9% or below. See AZEO, All Zero Except One card reporting a balance.

Re: High Credit Usage Question

Yes.  It was awesome of your parents to help you get your credit started, but now it's time to lose the AU affiliation if you don't need it.

Re: High Credit Usage Question

+100 to the above. And then when your score comes up, go get you a couple more. Then retire to the Garden for a while, at least 12 months for maximum score increase. Permanently, if you don’t need anything else.
