How many points dinged for a maxed out card?

So I recently had Cap One do an off cycle report on my balance. This was annoying because I use the card for expenses, PIF before statement close, and let it report $0 balance. (Cap One tells me they did the off cycle report due to a dispute, but they can't say what dispute it is and I haven't disputed anything since 4/4 and it wasn't Cap One. Plus that dispute is resolved. So IDK). In any event, I had for FICO 8: EQ 693, TU 695, and EX 681. I have $18,450 in credit limits (though one card has yet to start reporting on EX so that limits there is $11,850). My UTI was at 13% aggregate. Below 10% on everything except Wayfair because I have 12 months no interest. It's reporting currently $1283 on a $3500 limit. When it updates it will be $950 on a $4300 limit after payment and CLI. In any event, I had my $1000 limit Cap One report a balance of $960 (96% uti). I lost 14 points on EX, 11 points on EQ, and 9 points on TU. Does this sound right? Lose an average of 11 points over one card being maxed out? Cap One tells me they will report my normal zero balance again on the 22nd. Will all these point come back?

Yes utilization is a snapshot. It doesn’t carry a memory. In your case the 90% usage crossed several scoring thresholds all at once. Once the card reports back to zero and your utilization normalizes, you’ll regain the points you lost. You’ll basically cross those same thresholds in reverse, positively impacting your scores this time.

You’re lucky that’s all you lost, it depends on which scorecard you’re on.
