Those scores are functionally the same. There isn't anything you'd qualify for with one that you would not qualify for with the other.

Tell me this again when your 850 scores tank

800 and up is all the same. I wouldn't care unless it dropped below 800 and put me in a different category.

My score isn't 850 anyway.

It takes alot of work to get an 850.

I wouldn't know...I don't have an 850. I doubt I ever will. But I do know I don't need one, since 800+ is all the same for all practical purposes. Only reason I would need an 850 is if my sense of self-worth was based on my credit score and I had some ego attached to it. But that's me. I can't speak to what drives anyone else.

Here is what else I know. I don't obsess about my credit score. I've found that by focusing my efforts on living well within my means and paying my bills on-time, my credit score somehow takes care of itself. It's not even hard work either (;

Aside from all of that, my credit score is basically irrelevant for the next couple of years anyway. Don't need anymore credit cards. Not buying a house or a car. No reason for anyone to check my credit, let alone care about my score.

Here's the other thing...life is short. Is it worth spending one's precious time on Earth being upset that their 82X credit score isn't an 850 credit score? Really? I don't think it is. I would encourage others to do the same.

And another thing....what is a credit score? It's simply some organization's judgement of you. Does it make sense to care that this organization doesn't think you're PERFECT?! In light of the fact that it makes it very clear that you're FREAKING AWESOME. More awesome than the vast majority of people. But, alas, not PERFECT? Is that really something to worry or be upset about? Falling just short of perfection, in the eyes of some faceless organization, is probably first, of first world problems (;

Live life while you can man. Find real meaning where you can, while you can. Your life will be gone before you know it. Good luck out there.

Like I previosly said, put in the work and raise your score to 850 first. Until then .......

There is a difference between Fico8 and Fico9

Fico8 rewards your score with an average double digit increase when you have no new accounts within the last year. The negative factor , looking for credit drops off your report here.  For some reason, Fico9 does not like this milestone

On the positive side, IIRC the Fico9 loss rebounds mostly within a few months

I am skeptical that going 1 year without a new account actually hurts one's FICO 9 score.  That would be inconsistent with every other FICO scoring model.  I would look for some other factor to have caused it.   The only way I can imagine it having a negative effect would be scorecard reassignment, but going to a higher scorecard usually helps, rather than hurts, most profiles.

I hope this observation will meet with further testing and scrutiny. Relying on incidental free scores won't cut it.  Anyone who thinks this happened to them would need to dig into a comparison of their full reports before and after the score drop.

Normally I would agree with you but this is not the first time this amomoly has happened to me.  The first time was a few years back when my AoYA hit 1 year for the first time.  I wrote a thread about it here but im too lazy atm to look for it now.  At that time, EX and TU F8 saw 20ish point gains while EQ saw no movement at all.  My attention at that time was trying to figure out why EQ didnt move.  2 days later my monthly 3b report was ready and when I pulled it, it was then that I saw a Fico9 14 - 17 point drop on all three reports.

So as you can see, this is not the first time this has happened to me.  The main "event" in both situations was  AoYA turning 1 year.

I know its not EX but this is EQ.  The same day my EX dropped 23 points, my EQ F8 hit 850

Re: I hate Fico9

@SouthJamaica

Im still looking for the original post years ago but I did stumble on this one.  The 20 point expected drop was I had just been approved for a

new credit card but the new account hadnt reported yet
