Improving my scores

Currently I'm trying to find ways to improve my scores. I've paid off my discrepancies. I have 5 credit cards that I pay on time. I have had late payments on my car but it's been over a year (10,990 left) My student loans were pushed back because we're trying to get a home. My first goal is 700, then 750 but I feel like i'm at stand still. Anyone have any advice for me?

Re: Improving my scores

The late payments on your CR are what is holding your scores back. Have you thought about writing the loan financer and asking for a goodwill adjustment to remove the late payments?

Your FICO credit scores are not just numbers, it’s a skill.

I didn't know that was possible. I plan on trading it in next August. Would that make a difference?

Re: Improving my scores

No.

Late payments are late payments and they'll haunt your credit report and scores for 7 years.

You'd be best advised to hit up the rebuilding forum and read about goodwill letter writing.  I'd strongly suggest the Saturation Technique, which you can read about at the link below:

Late payments to any lender will stay on your reports for 7 years from the date of late payment. It doesn't matter if the loan or credit card was/is closed, it will still affect your scores.

You need to go to the rebuilding forum and learn how to write Good Will letters. You might need to write many GW letters to have a late removed but it is well worth it. Your reports need to be 100% clean without any derogatories for you to be able to get the highest scores that your profile is capable of getting.

Re: Improving my scores

I started in the rebuilding Forum a few years ago with Junk scores and a few baddies on my reports. I'm at 808 now. Don't give up, just stay involved in these forums and do the work. Your scores will improve.

Yup, lots of success stories there.  I made it from 619 to 850 inside of 2 years and would never have been able to do it without this forum.
