Lender Pull Score Vs. Scorewatch

So I am a little puzzled about scores and what I am actually paying for on this site. Here is the timeline of recent events.

Scorewatch had my score from an alert on 12/9 as 635. On 12/20 I received a preapproval offer for a prime card (Discover More) which surprised me as according to this website/scorewatch my score was not high enough to qualify for this offer. I apped to the offer that same day and was accepted with a fairly high limit (5500)  which was another nice surprise. An hour or so after the app I received a scorewatch alert  showing the inquiry  though my score didn't change.

I received the card in the mail a week later and Discover tells me they pulled my EQ score and it was a 690. This is very good news but I don't understand why there is a 55 point difference between the lender and this website. I have since received 3 more preappoval offers for prime cards in the mail so obviously something changed recently to all of a sudden start receiving these.

Background: I have one cap one card with a 750 balance that is now 7 months old. Recently had a limit bump up from 500 due to the credit steps program. That is my only revolving history. I also have an open car note with good history ( 2.5 years) and a paid off secured loan. That is my only credit history so nothing has fallen off that would affect the score. I am young and have a thin file and honestly thought it would take longer to get my score up close to 700.

Would Discover use a different scoring model than what I see with Scorewatch? A couple of my inquiries are not for cards but for store credit, an apartment credit check, and check from an appliance rental company and maybe their model doesn't look at these? Only thing I could think of.

Re: Lender Pull Score Vs. Scorewatch

The difference is likely due to the scoring version used. Many CCs use a CC-enhanced FICO version which weighs your past CC experience moreso than the version here and more than what mortgage lenders would look at.
