No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I'd also recommend googling Lexington Law reviews. Skip past the sites that they sponsor, and look for real folks who really used them and what their experience was like. Last time I did this, the results were less than encouraging. Partly because LL does a lot of things that you should not do by yourself, and neither should they.
On the other hand, the Rebuilding Your Credit forums here are full of helpful information and knowledgable experienced folks who will help you clean up and repair your credit. You'll end up with useful life skills, will understand the world of credit better, and will sleep better at night.
Plus, you'll be able to buy lots of Ben & Jerry's with all the cash you'll save.
>>Even though they use "unethical" practices, do they work?
You want the truth... the answer is yes sometimes but depends and is it really worth it in the end?
I hired lexington in 2006 through Jan 2008 and ended up spending 80 dollars a month with 99 dollars down you do the math, in the end of it all they got 5 things removed off my credit report but in 2008 July 3 of the 5 items came back to haunt me.
Then I figured I'd try doing the work myself and just learning everything I could about the system, I studied without doing any paperwork until Jan of 2010 when I started to send the letters.
By September of 2010 I myself had removed 19 items off my report and they won't come back because when the items got removed from my report I also paid in full all the old collections which were under 200 bucks.
All in all I've still got work to do but even my wife was shocked when the letters came in every month either from the CRA saying deleted or from a collection agency stating that they don't wanna play with me any more and gave up. I did have struggles and it was not easy but even one collection took 8 months while others took 30 days.
Don't give up, read this forum like a crazy man and you will get progress.
Why hire this company who's interests are to keep you paying long as they can and only mailing 1 to 2 letters every 60 days while you pay either 39 or the 80 dollar monthly plans?
My lesson was learned
cchedda, I hired lexington law before I found this website. And they never promised things they couldnt do and they didnt do anything unethical as far as my case went. And it did work......HOWEVER THEY DO NOTHING YOU CANT DO YOURSELF FOR FREE!!!!! i have read that there are some scam repair companies out there but as far as my experience went they didnt promise anything unethical or illegal and for me it was a place to get help until I found this forum and started learning the rules and rights of the consumer and how to go about fixing my credit.
having said that in my experience since you've found this site and if you have the time just post your questions and read as much as you can and you can achieve the same goals as lexington and save yourself the money. However, if you dont think you have the time or diligence to be persistant with the process then I feel like they are beneficial company....but it will cost you some cash!
Good luck to you
Yes it will cost you lots of cash and you better have a big wallet because they will drag it on as long as they can, they are in no hurry to clean it up otherwise they'd be out of business.
Just so you know they also can get you flagged as fraud to the bureau's, no one can fix your credit better then you, only you know when the real deal is with all your creditors.
good luck

One of the problems with LL is that you don't know what they did - they do not send you copies of what they mail out.
Traditionally, their most common practice, which is disputing of all negative tradelines (not limited to correcting incorrect information), is unethical and illegal. It can also create a mess for you. There are several lawsuits registered against these guys because of their actions and claims. And a horde of complaints from customers who were very displeased with LL.
When you follow the information given here on the Rebuilding Your Credit forums, you're in good hands. We'll steer you away from doing those things that are unethical and/or illegal or damaging; and the information you gain will help you make wise decisions that will build your credit rather than damage it.
For those who would like to hire someone to do this for them, you can find ethical lawyers that will do the legal work for you - for a fee. But do your homework and make sure they are above board. I would be willing to hire a bona-fide attorney to help me do the appropriate work (that I could do myself) - but I would never let LL touch my credit reports nor would I give them permission to bill or access to any of my credit cards.
beammeup you have to selet for each account you want them to work with why you are disputing. Whether its not your account, incorrect data, etc etc. but you are correct that you dont receive the copies they send out. but you do get the results back from CR. Im in no way promoting LL, the only reason I signed up was because I hadnt found this place yet. But I also dont want to lie and say they scammed me or dog the company when at least in my experience they seemed legit. Maybe I was just lucky that they didnt mess up anything before i canceled when I found this place.
But i do strongly agree with you and others that its not worth the money. Everyone on this site is so helpful and educational that anyone can do this themselves and know that its being done right!

Oh that's good to know! I was told otherwise.
Glad you're here, and thanks for relating your personal experience - very helpful!
Maybe after the lawsuits they straighten up. But its called case valet and they wont start working on anything until you go through each Credit bureau (they download your report from each bureau) and each account and mark to ignore or dispute and give a reason to each one. Its set up alot like if you were to dispute directly throught the online bureau websites (which hello i couldve done myself and saved the money if i knew then, lol)
and im glad to help, if I hadnt had found this website and had all the help on here I wouldve continued wasting my money!!
