Lower CC Balance = Lower Credit Score??

I am in the underwriting process of closing my mortgage loan on a new house.  The balance on one of my cards was reduced by 44.00 after my payment.  I normally pay $100 every month to this card.  On Equifax, my score was reduced by 6 points.  On TransUnion, it was reduced by 17.  Why?

The balance update is just a trigger for a score update, and unfortunately some updates like this one have little correlation with what actually changed.

My $0.02 guess: you made your original mortgage application 30 days ago and the inquiries from that have just come out of their grace period, though 17 seems a bit extreme for that TBH, possible something else changed though.

From what to what?

Re: Lower CC Balance = Lower Credit Score??

Thanks for answering!  The following are the scores:

Equifax:  4/21  707 down 7

Experian:  4/19  706 down 17

Both say the reason is that my balance decreased by $44.

Transunion:  4/3  701 down 10

                      4/2 710 plus 1

The TUs above give no reason and were seemingly out of the blue.

The inquiry from the lender was 3/4 Exp and 3/5 Equifax.

I'll bet you are right and that explains them all.
