So, my parents are in the middle of the mortgage process and our state runs a "Good Credit Rewards" program. If you have a score of 680 or higher, you only have to pay 0.50% down up-front on the home purchase. The mortgage broker we're working with gave them a sheet showing which cards they needed to pay down so that they could qualify for the program.
They're in the process of doing so, but I was wondering if it would also help them to possibly ask for a (soft pull only) CLI? Would that further help lower utilziation? Would it possibly hurt their scores in any way as far as available credit ratios and so forth?
If they can be certain that the CLI would not involve a hard pull then it will not hurt their score.
It will lower their total utilization.
