I ordered three dresses online that put my one card to more than 50% utilization. I knew I would return two out of the three, but I missed the window!! Now that big balance has reported to TU and EX,. My limit on this card is only 2K, so you see I charged $1385 and that posted already to TU and EX (not to EQ as of today).
Question is, by having a card that is running at 50% utilization, if I pay it off next cycle, prior to being reported, will I gain back the points I am going to lose?
Meaning, let's say I get dinged 15 points, by next month when the card reports as "0", will I get back those 15 I lost? or does it take time to recover from the damage? idk
Thanks in advance for any advice.

this is TOTALLY off topic & i apologize....but did you say you spent $1385 on THREE dresses???
I cringe every time DW looks at a St. Johns dress. *shutters*
If all is equal (no other CC balance change, no report changes, etc.) then you'll regain any points lost next month instantaneously, if you even lost them to begin with. FICO has no memory of what your util used to report.
$1385 for three dresses?
I'm surmising that the bigger issue here may be a lack of discretion in discretionary spending? Just a thought.
The dresses (evening gowns) were for a formal event, so it's not everyday street clothes. They cost more money, but I will have the one I kept for a long time. The good news is two of them have been returned, so my balance isn't something I can't PIF this month and be done with the horror of 50% posting balance on a card. And, I have a tiny bit of managable debt to boot.
Hi daisy...you should be OK. I first thought you meant that you missed the window to return two of the dresses. That would be bad.
I'm glad you got two of them returned. We just bought a prom dress at our house and thought about ordering it online...but most of those places you can't return anything. All you get is credit.
I hope you have a great time at your event.
daisy,
Hope the dress is beautiful. I'm into the buy three things and return the ones that don't work thing, too. It works.
Let us know if your points drop and how quickly they recover.
DH had some point drops when he reported a higher balance, and they did not recover as I thought they should when he paid the balance down; but there's always other stuff going on, so it was hard for me to get a "pure" before and after.
And, let us know if that beautiful dress makes for a great event - hope it's perfect.

Daisy, I'm guessing that if you're anything like me, the dress you kept was the most expensive of the three. Isn't that the way it always works? DH just doesn't understand.
Anyway, I'm certain that the points will bounce right back. I've been up and down so much and they really do change that quickly. The only thing is you might have to pull your report again to see the score change, since you know the Score Watch doesn't always update right away...
Well the balance reported to EQ but no SW alert yet...I kept the dress that fit!! I only had two days to get it altered (made for really tall women, i guess six feet tall) a beautiful long satin gown, open back, black dress with a cowl neck - that I will have until I can no longer wear the open back (no longer age appropriate is what i really mean)...it's very hard to buy stuff on line that was the reason for the three, knowing that two would go back. I just didn't' return right away - I returned five days after I rec'd them and by that time, the balance posted! yikes.
Of course DH doesn't understand, when I had one, he didn't either...
I lost seven points - all of my balances reported too and they are kind of high iof high this month. i'm not worried about 7 points.
