When you say they reported it, do you mean reported it 30 days late?
If so, what you need is for them to agree to remove the negative item first if they haven't yet done so. Simply asking for an off-cycle reporting or waiting for a new reporting won't do you any good if the negative item is still going to be on there. If they have agreed to report the account as "paid as agreed" for that month, call the EO of the bank that backs Kohl's (I don't know who it is) and let them know your situation. Hopefully they'll be able to do a prompt (clean) reporting of the account for you.
Hi- Thank you for your response.
Yes they reported it as 30 days late. I called them and paid the balance off in full ($900) but they do not report again until 3/21.
I need to get it reported as paid in full as soon as possible, and possibly remove the late although I realize that might be a stretch.
Any idea how to do this?
I need a number to call. I think their EO is Capital One but I could be wrong.
This is the worst time this could have happened of course.
thanks!
Paying it off won't change the 30-day late reporting. That will remain for 7 years regardless unless the lender agrees to remove it. If you search the backdoor number thread on the forum here you can probably find a contact for the EO of Capital One or whoever backs Kohls. What you'll want to do is let them know about the error, that you are sorry it happened but immediately paid it off and that since you've never had any other payment-related issues you'd very much appreciate a one-time act of goodwill, forgiving the 30 day late reporting. If they agree to this, simply request a letter be sent to you informing you that they'll report the account as "paid as agreed" for that month. You can also request that they do an off-cycle reporting immediately, although that often goes hand in hand with a GW adjustment anyway.
Since this just happened you stand a decent chance of getting this done with phone call if you act quickly. Strike while the iron is hot. If you don't get a favorable response, your next recourse is to start a GW letter writing campaign, which can be successful, but definitely takes more time... something you said you don't have a lot of right now. Good luck for sure here!
According to my wife's Kohls statement, it is Capital One. They give this info for mailing requests:
If you think there is an error on your statement, write to Capital
One, N.A. through our servicer at: Kohl’s, P.O. Box 3043,
Milwaukee, WI 53201-3043.
I only see one number on the statement but I think it is the same one on the card. It isn't clear if that rings to Kohl's CS or to Capital One.

Capital One would be the appropriate contact, as they do the account reporting. It's best for the OP to look up the backdoor numbers, though, rather than just going through frontline CS.
