New CC.. No FICO change?

Hey all!

Just had a new credit card hit my EQ, which triggered an SW update.

Only thing is, my score didn't change. At all.

The INQ had already been there (obviously). I have quite a few derogs, most of which hit the 2 year mark last month. By August 1, all of them will hit the 2 year mark.

Since that point in time I had zero credit cards. I added one (USAA Secured AmEx - $1500 CL) in March of this year. The one that hit my CR today was the USAA Secured MC - $1000 CL.

Why would this not affect my score? The FICO simulator put my score in the potential range of 656-686 with a new CC at $1,000 limit. I thought that was a bit ambitious, but no change at all? Do changes sometimes trigger after-the-fact? Or is the potential increase being offset by the ding from a new account?

Would having 5 or 6 items in dispute make any difference in the calculations?

So confused. Any ideas?

Re: New CC.. No FICO change?

Simulators can be notoriously innacruate for some people.  By definition, everyone's report and scoring are individual, and the simulators, no matter how good, can only play the averages.  Also disputes appear to do wonky things with anyone's score; frankly I can't even pretend to understand how they actually impact the score as it appears to be all over the map.

End of the day, in time that new /CC will be a positive boost for your reports and your resultant FICO score, don't sweat the instant in time no change reported by SW or any other service honestly.  Long term trends are what matter the most.

Re: New CC.. No FICO change?

Are these the only two CCs you have? If so, my guess would be that the new credit ding washed out the gain for the new mix. If that's the case, then you'd see slow and gradual increases over the next few months (assuming all else is equal).

Re: New CC.. No FICO change?

Yep, these are my only 2.

I know it's a slow process and good credit builds over time. I'm trying to buy a car in November/December and just trying to get my ducks in a row! Baddies have been falling off all year, and I wish I had signed up for this sooner so I could have seen how my score has grown in the past 6 months.

Re: New CC.. No FICO change?

I had one only open CC (a Cap1) and a Macy's showing. Couple of days ago AMEX Green started reporting and my EQ score increased (only 4 points though). I guess it's just math of how much lowered age of accounts vs having more accounts does. I personally had no change in utilization since it's a NPSL card.
