Odd Score Behavior

So Today my new CC hit my credit reports. It brought my utili up significantly since there was a large balance at cut date. Prior to this scores were:
TU - 654
EQ - 683

Only difference between my EQ and TU scores is that TU has a 2 year old collection and EQ has no collections. TU has 5 inq's and eq has 8 inqs

After the CR update heres new scores:
TU - 630
EQ - 597

This is Vantage scores. How is my EQ score lower than my TU score?

What gives? I double checked all info was matching...I dont get it.

Re: Odd Score Behavior

You real need to get your FICO, many times there is no rhyme or reason with Vantage scores and trying to figure them out will make your head spin. Also no lenders use them .

Hi, Callesun.

For a $1 you can see all your FICO 08 scores, twice, 7 days apart. Go here if interested.

It doesn't matter since no lenders will use Vantage scores in their lending decisions... so you shouldn't care about them either.  Do you know any of your FICO scores?  You can get your EX FICO 8 score from creditscorecard.com for free and it will update every month.  I also like the suggestion above to try a $1 CCT trial membership to see all 3 of your FICO 8 scores.

I wouldn't call 10 points lopsided at all.

That's not lopsided.  A 10 point variance between two FICO scores is completely normal and quite common.  Some people have reported up to a 20-30 point variance between two FICO scores from reports that contain the same information.

Also, what's the source of your scores?  You said you pulled FICOs and provided a TU and EQ number, but nothing for EX.  I would think whatever your source is that you'd have been provided with all 3?

Re: Odd Score Behavior

I find on my reports that several CC Lenders update at different times on the various CRAs -- I expect it's actually the CRA and not the Lenders -- and the same is true with new tradelines or CLI reporting, thus my utilization differs by almost 10 percentage points across the 3 reports. Of course, it eventually smoothes out. But any given snapshot might not include all of the same information.

Re: Odd Score Behavior

That is very true above, especially with reported balances. It is worth repeating however that even with identical profile info ( all identical reported balances for example) that due to slightly different weights given to certain scoring factors it's normal for scores to vary. Two quick examples would be inquiry weights, where one could be "worth" 5 points on one bureau but say 8 on another on a given profile. Second, maybe one has 3 of 8 accounts with balances reported and sees no penalty on ex/tu for this (since it isn't 50% or greater) but does see a penalty on EQ since it's 33% or greater. There are a million other examples, but those are a couple.

Overall good points. Question: Is this an actual scoring example or only for illustrative purposes?
