@Gunnar419 wrote:I thought I'd make it over 800 on all three bureaus last month. Didn't, but I guess I'm still happy to report that I DID get my first ever 800 on one bureau. Here's the overall standings:
MyFico EQ: 800
MyFico EX: 790
Discover TU: 795
I had three credit events that I thought would put me over my goal: a nice CLI, a large paydown on one card, and going from two cards reporting a balance to just one reporting a balance (20% on that card, about 7% overall util). Turns out it's true what they say, though. When you get near 800, it takes a whole lot more to get your scores to budge. I guess it's just going to take time to get them all over 800, but without these forums, I'd still be in the low to mid 700s.
BTW, this is with no mortgage, no auto loan and no installment loans of any sort, just credit cards.
If you had the +10 or more points from an installment loan, you'd be at 800 .
Anyway serious congrats to both you and the others announcing their gold-plated scores in this thread: is an excellent accomplishment considering where the vast majority of us started and in the discipline to change our habits and simply do better.
You all are looking good. Hate it when my scores drop below 800. Charged on a card last month, but will pay that off today. Will check back in another month to see what that does to my scores.
I have a mortgage and one installment loan. My overall util is 6%. Oldest card is 19 years.
Cheers all, and keep up the good work.
I just checked my Equifax FICO score for the first time in over a year and... 837.
I'm in shock.

I just found out a couple of days ago that my EX FICO bankcard score is 808. I'm waiting for updates on the other bankcard scores, but I'm thrilled anyway. It's good to know I"m in high achiever. I just re-read your original post and realized I don't have to wait until, I have proof, that all three are over 760. This feels good.

The benefits of a high credit score? I got a message from one of my CCCs. They soft pulled my score last week, and presumably in an effort to get me to use that card more often, proceeded to offer me a CLI from $20k to $25k. After confirming that the offer was real, I hit the accept button on their website. At this stage, a $5k increase is mearly a bump. I'll take it though. And I will have to give this account a little more love by buying a few more things on it.
I have another card that uses a different tactic to keep me as a customer. Approx. every year or so they call me up and ask if I want to have some cheap cash. Seriously, they will deposit, up to my credit limit, into my chequing account whatever I want. And the interest rate? Well, the first time they gave me 0.9% interest for 1 year. 2nd time they gave me 1.9% for 9 months and the third time 0.0% interest for 1 year. They want me to use their card. Heck at nearly free money, I'll go for it.
My trick though is to not ask for too much that I can't pay back within their time limit otherwise it is back up at 19%. I only ask for $2500 which I pay back in a few months.. This is just enough to keep them coming back with more offers for cheap money.
A third vendor has a different trick altoghether -- they offered me a free product upgrade from Gold to Platinum with greater rewards. The only downside is that after 1 year I have to pay the $65 AF. But given the greater rewards, I can make that back in no time.
And like everyone else, I continue to get more CC offers in the mail -- preapproved of course....
Yes, it pays to garden and take care of yourself financially.

For the first time today all 3 are over 760. Never thought I would see this day in my life, ever.
No new apps for a long time, next stop 800 club.
you are in the excellent credit club right now :-) I am trying to get my experian up to 800 club as well :-)
Gosh I know I have 2 at 760 but equifax is always behind but I think I might have it at 740 maybe 750 but I hate to pay 60 bucks just to check. I started all this at 533 back in 2008. I have worked my butt off. No negatives or anything I can do to bump it but time and a mortgage and higher Credit Lines. The estimator tells me this.
Why do they charge so much just to pull scores. I would love to see my true Fico each month. My fakos are in the 760 - 780 range.
Everyone keep up the good work. I use my card every month each one but if I leave any balance over 10% on just one it burns 4-10 points off. They always come back once I pay the balance down. I also use each one but leave a balance on only one all the others I pay off completly to zero.
Any ideas from you Gurus how to hit 800 faster ?I know 760 past is just worthless but it gives me a good cushion for when I do need to carry a balance a few months on a larger purchase.
ANYONE with a low score do not give up. I went 10 years and would not check my credit until finally I had enough and went to the bank and ask my banker to help me. She started out with Secure installment loans off my savings and we used that money I borrowed to pay off all collections. I have had no negatives on there for years and also I have a perfect payment history x 2008. Its the biggest part of your score your payment history then your utilization. Utilization will burn you on FICO points in a heartbeat. Hard inquiry is evey worse. I bought a New truck in December and that was the first Hard Inquiry in 3 years. I have them locked and will not let anyone run my credit that is a lender.
Recently joined the 760+ club when the last baddie (a judgment) fell off my reports.
After that happened, I was in the 750-760 range, but only had one "store card", and the last "bad" thing on the myFico "Understanding your score" part of the report was that I had no national bank credit cards.
So I went on an app spree and added four national bank cards and another store card. Initially each of the three scores lost a few points due to the HP's.
HOWEVER, once several of the national bank credit cards reported, my scores all went UP 20-30 points.
My scores now stand at TU-783, EQ-771 and EX-754.
Next GOAL 800!!
