Can anyone share their experience about this.
I have a couple PAID tax liens. Apparently they do not fall off until 7 years after payment. Currently they appear on all three bureaus and are about 6 years in the past. I am wondering how much effect this has on my current scores, which are currently around 700.
I guess my question is, how much does a paid tax lien impact a score with a good payment history since? What might I expect when they roll off? Is it 7 yeats to the day that they disappear?
I have a goal of acheiving and maintaining 750. Currently ~27% Utilization, a bunch of current, never late accounts.
Hi - I think you can get the IRS to remove paid tax liens and some states do it too.
Well I am very interested in hearing how that might be accomplished.
It is a little discouraging to see a bunch of current-never late notations and then those 2 public records.
The liens are State Tax liens entered by the local County Recorder.
Call the state department of rev and ask about it. I know when I owed state taxes I had a lien and it was released after paid. It's been 2-3 years but it isn't showing on my credit reports. IDK if it showed then bc I didn't look at my credit back then. Head in the sand kinda thing.
Also I've read posts here about people getting the paid IRS released. Worth a shot to call. I'd call a couple different times and speak to different reps because depending on who answers the phone you could get a different answer.
In California, State Taxes and thus Liens are meted out by The Franchise Tax Board. Liens are recorded by the County Recorder in the County of Residence. So I have 2 Liens form the State of California, in public record, thus on my credit report.
Who actually has the ability, other than the CRA to remove them from my report. Is it the County Recorder then who could "stop" reporting them to the 3 bureaus?
I'm not in CA but what happens from what I gather is these "businesses" comb the courthouses and sell public info to the credit bureaus. If you could get The Franchise Tax Board to remove the lien, then you could dispute with that document that says the lien is removed.
Thanks Booner72,
I've done a little research on my end and I think you have got it exactly right.
Now, has anyone out there done this in California? I cringe at the very thought of getting on the phone with ANY government employee and trying to explain anything.
The CRA has on record the name of the party who furnished the reporting of any information to your credit file, and that party is the one who has the authority with the CRA to delete their prior reporting. You need to contact whatever party reported the information.
If you are unsure of the party, you can request their name and contact info from the CRA. If they wont provide it informally over the phone, which might be the case due to need to verify identity, just send them a request under FCRA 609(a)(1), along with proof of identity, and the current processing fee of $11.00.
I have already spent a number of hours on this issue and am just wondering;
How much impact does a State Tax Lien paid 6+ years ago have on my 700ish credit score anyway?
Can anyone weigh in on that?
The notation rolls off in six or seven months anyway
Thanks
