Until a month ago I never really checked my FICO score. I knew I paid my bills on time and didn't really worry about my score because I wasn't going to apply for credit. But then as part of an employment background check I learned that I had a 120 day late reported on my account. That got me motivated to ensure that any wrong information was corrected etc. In the space of less than a month I've seen my TU score climb from 709 to 732 just by correcting that one mistake and paying down some balances. I also arranged a PFD for a small medical collection account, and I'm hoping that will boost my score another 20 points, putting me in High Achiever range. The truth is that by joing this board and frequently monitoring my scores I am not only achieving a much better FICO but also learning more about the ins and outs of FICO scoring. Next spring I'm going to either take out a home equity line to do some repairs or else sell my condo and buy something else that's better suited to my needs. Either way, because of all the info etc. I've learned here I will have many more and better loan choices available to me. It realy does become addictive to track one's FICO and I am so thankful this resource exists!!
Congratulations!
I agree that paying attention pays off. Congratulations on your achievements!
