Paying Off Large Sums... When Will It Show On Score?

I just paid down over $40k in credit card bills from a settlement that I received... when will that show on my FICO score?

Re: Paying Off Large Sums... When Will It Show On Score?

Congratulations, and welcome to the forums!

Most of your credit card accounts will update to the credit bureaus on their individual statement dates. Not on the due dates, but on the date that they post the statement.

After that, you have to wait for each CRA (credit bureau) to post the new $0 balances. For most of us, EX does this right away, and then EQ 3-4 days later, and then TU a couple of days after EQ.

So all in all, it could easily take a full month for each individual account to cycle through and update.

If you have American Express cards, they take an extra month to update. HSBC/ Orchard bank cards should update around the last business day of the month.

For more information, read these:

These will give you the background knowledge you need to understand what you read here on the forums.

FICO's: EQ 781 - TU 793 - EX 779 (from PSECU) - Done credit hunting; having fun with credit gardening. - EQ 590 on 5/14/2007
