I am expecting my discharge any day now from my 5 year chapter 13 bankruptcy.
I have a few credit cards reporting (all in good standing) and my scores are sitting around 675 average across all three. The categories that are not "exceptional" are the length of credit history and the late payments. (I filed in May 2021 so there are accounts from that time that report late payments, I know these won't fall off until May 2028 (bummer!).
Currently my student loans and mortgage are not reporting but I'm wondering if they will help my score when they start. My mortgage payments were made outside the plan and have always been on time. My student loans were in deferment during the bankruptcy and according to nelnet are in "admin forbearance" for another year, but they also show good payment history, and I think the age of these accounts would help the "length of credit history".
My mortage is just shy of $100K and my student loans are around $27K. I do plan on taking my student loans out of the admin forbearance as soon as I get my official discharge because they are still accumulating interest and I want to start paying those down.
Do you think once these two accounts start reporting, it will affect my score positively? or , gosh I hope not, negatively? My only credit goal in the near future is to get a travel rewards card so I'm trying to manage my expectations on when I might be able to qualify for one of those.
I appreciate any insight this forum has to offer.
If you have no open installment loan reporting, adding the mortgage or student loan should be positive. If they improve age metrics, that should also help. Why aren't they reporting now?
