Question about something on my credit

Hi , recently I been trying rebuild my credit , paid to delet 2 collections , also got a capital one card with a 300$ balance that I try to keep under 50$, my question is that my mother in law has me on her American exspress , like I have a American exspress card with my name but the account is in her name , with a 5,000 line of credit , I go on credit karma and see it on thier and right now it is maxed out , due to having to pay for my wedding , since it’s a secured card through another Pearson will it being maxed out hurt my credit , because it don’t say that I’m utilizing anything of it on my credit ,

Re: Question about something on my credit

Hi and welcome to the forums

Amex does not have secured cards, so I'm assuming by secured you mean you're only authorized user.
Yes, maxed out card will "hurt" your score as if it was your own till it's paid down, and it w
ill be same for your mom.

It would be for the best to bring that balance down as much as you can.
Some lenders get a bit twitchy when cards stay at high utilization or maxed for prolonged period of time.

Re: Question about something on my credit

Hi and welcome to myFICO

Yes, since you are an AU on the card, the maxed out card will affect your credit history. Since you are in rebuilding phase, if the outstanding balance is not going to be PIF, or at a minimum paid down to <8.9% by the next statement date, I suggest removing yourself from this card.
