Well that is why I said there is nothing more to the story;  friend's company 'gave' him a corp card.  he didn't ask for it nor did he use it. he was concerned because they are small and not generally responsible people. so he called amex who said 'you are not responsible for charges'.  I explained this probably means he is an AU and to call back and ask 1) if that is in fact true 2) if he can have the account not report to his CR and 3) if they won't do that can they take him off now please.

I personally would do whatever it took to be removed from that account. I kept asking if your friend was using the account. The employer has no reason to insist that your friend keeps his AU status if it is not necessary to do his job. I would ask the employer to remove the AU status first. If he refused for some reason I would basically take the steps you outlined above.

Has your friend asked the employer to be removed from the AU status?

Hi, sorry if it has been unclear; NO my friend has not used the card, nor does he really care to. He just found out and just called Amex. He is not part of this forum nor very knowledgeable about all this.  From what he said he asked and they answered, I surmised he was an AU.  So probably yes, his best bet is to simply decline and tell his boss he doesn't want to be on the card.  Of course, a first query could/should be to Amex to see if they are even planning on reporting it. In any event, I see no upside for him; he has his own credit-card and credit-score, does not do a lot of bus travelling or entertaining. I told him if he orders on the net for them at all, to simply use their card.  Not really ANY reason for them to have given him a card.
