This is interesting, because AmEx does the same thing. I put DH and DD#2 on my Gold card and later removed them. The lines still report, which is annoying as it was a new card. On top of which, someone started using the account number, and AmEx replaced the card, so DH and DD now each have two closed AmEx accounts on their reports, lowering their AAoA.
AmEx wants me to buy Experian reports for each of them, saying that they need a credit report number to fix this. What a load of hogwash. I have to pay $30 to get them to stop reporting an AU account??
It is indeed 'interesting'.....and VERY aggravating! I guess some CCCs decided if AUs are reported to CRA (to the benefit of many customers), they (the CCC) will continue to report the TL even after the AU relationship is terminated. Maybe they figure this may discourage the AU practice which we know was abused by many.
As for the Experian report number, why not just go direct to the Experian site and get your report free when you file your dispute on line with them, and then give Amex that report number?? It's a 'bonafide' number......just Amex won't in any way profit from it!! (Not sure that they would if you paid the $30...but I tend to think 'maybe'????

The problem is that I need report numbers for DH's and DD's reports, not mine. So I would have to pull (= pay for) their full reports from EX in order to get the number that AmEx pretends to need. Oddly, they don't seem to need the TU or EQ report numbers.
C'mon, AmEx, you can check to see if you're updating their credit reports without being given a report number. sheesh
htsu, I think your DH and DD should just be able to got to Experian themselves and get their reports. They each just need to go to the site and click 'file dispute' and follow the prompts which will include getting a report for free. I found this out when I filed the EX dispute about my AU reporting. The dispute wasnt resolved to my satisfaction but at least I got a report out of the deal!
Even if they don't file the disputes with EX right then, they'll have the reports and be able to do so if Amex doesnt correct it (using the report # they will be able to provide) and since we're talking Amex, I would expect that they will have to file a dispute direct with EX!!
