Score jump after inquiry

I received a score watch alert today saying my score went up 11 points due to an inquiry from Discover. My score also went up 18 points yesterday due to a util change.

My question is, do inquiries ever increase a score? If anything, I thought it would go down a few points, but I have so many in the last two years that I figured one more wouldn't make much difference.

As far as I know, nothing else has changed on my report.

I got an increase as well. 6 points....then 11 points the next day when the new credit line appeared.

Re: Score jump after inquiry

The addition of an inquiry to your credit report will either have no impact or cause it to go down, but it will never ever increase your score. if your score increases after an inquiry, something else caused the increase, if only, for example, the passage of time.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if it had something to do with this being the first day of a new month

Bingo! While no one can say for sure that's what caused the increase, the number of months calculations are counted from from the first of each month. Smiley Happy
