Re: Student Loan catastophy!

I answered you in a PM-

Sounds like you are making some progress-

keep us updated.

To answer your question- No

I have not heard of this - the REHAB program is staightforward in what happens after the rehab is completed.

CA removed, status updated to ok/current, lates remain.

Hi Timothy this question is for you. I called and spoke with AES today for the 26th time since september and  I finally got someone who actually cares kindof she says it doesn't sem fair that the old loans should be listed as chargeoff/collection when they were rehabbed I almost jumped through the phone because that's what I 've been saying all along! My question is I read on one of your posts that you should not consolidate student loans until they are out of default well I consolidated my loans as soon as they were out of default is that what the problem is?? If so that is such BS because AES offered me the consolidation option after rehabbing they said it was they only way to lower my payment. The manager at AES I spoke to today said she would speak to someone in the credit dept. to see if she could correct this. Have you ever heard of this happening? I feel like they tricked me by offering lower payments but failing to say at what cost bad credit for 7 years!? Please help I think this is what's tanking my scores there is 7 charge off/collections listed from thisSmiley Sad

Well it sounds like EX is correct-

You can try a GW-
Unless these are your only baddies- they aren't hurting too much anymore.

I'm anxious to see what kind of results you get.  I have my pre-consolidated Sallie Mae loans showing 13 baddies, each with 4 x 120 days late.  However, they all show up as "closed/transferred" with TU as pay status blank, EX as "current", and EQ as "too new to rate".  The dings are from late 2001.  I don't think anything can be done, maybe a GW, but who knows.  In Dec 01 I paid a bunch of $$ to quickly get them out of default so I could get a mortgage in April 02.  So, Sallie Mae got them from USA Group, and serviced from March 01-April 02 before the consolidation.  Any ideas?

I have two paid med collections from Jun 04 and Feb 04.  (I'm just starting to get my head around when to send a GW letter.)  I have a $1 derogatory balance on an unsecured CU loan.  (Long story, but I'm just about ready to tackle the VP of the CU again to see if he will do ANYTHING.  I've tried to pay the $1 in person, but I get the "that's not necessary".  I'm guessing I need to send a certified check for $1 with a letter as a CMRRR.)  Everything else is clear -- roughly 14k in TL on 10 CCs and as of today about 3% util.  That fluctuates depending on the day, but hasn't been higher than 10% for a few months.  I have one ginormous student loan @ 60k, mtg @75k and car lease @17k.

Well, I have a rewarding career teaching 6th and 8th graders.  (Of course, we're on winter break so it's a GREAT career at the moment).  I spent 3 years at Purdue before transferring back to Indy and finishing at the IU extension.  So, I have a very expensive BS with 201 credit hours (yah, I know, about 75 too many), and I'm half way through a MS degree from IU as well.

*Adding*  I might as well mention that I'm debt free for my MS degree so far.  I'm taking it slow and paying with the C word..  CASH!

HaHaHA!  It's all about the Boilermakers for me, NOT the Hoosiers.  I'll even give you a GO BLUE as long as they're not playing my Boilers.  I love Ann Arbor -- awesome college town.

I don't get excited about NCAA FB, just BB.  Playing Fantasy Football and NCAA Brackets gets me through the cold months!  WOOHOO!

Thanks for the masters wishes.  I have a 4.0 at the moment.  Can I get that added to my CR?

LOL - How about T-Shirt that says "For 121 years MEN didn't allow WOMEN to go to RHIT"?

My only complaint about Terre Haute is the smell.  RHIT is a GREAT school!
Smiley Happy  Go Boilers!
