So, I got a pleasant surprise from Experian today. My Fico score went up 6 points when I was expecting it to go down. I just closed on a house and between the cost of the inspection and prepaying a year's homeowner's insurance, my Barclay's balance increased over $2000. The card reported to the bureaus today and instead of going down my score went up? I'm a bit baffled. Though I have paid other cards off and down considerably, they won't report until the middle of the month. I was expecting to gain back whatever points I lost today when the other cards reported. The cards that will report in the middle of the month will then take my overall credit down by about $2500 or so. Now perhaps I'll get another bump up in score when those cards report. Anyhoo, the only thing I can think of that may have contributed to the credit score increase is that this card maybe reached 2 years in account age? The account was opened July 31, 2018, so it's really just shy of a two years. Maybe it counts? Is the two year mark for a card a time where we can gain points?

No it's not. The years on a particular account have no effect, unless it's your oldest account.

Yes, Experian counts a card as open per the first day of the month in which you opened it. Open a card on July 1, and on August 1 it's a month old. Open it July 31, and on August 1 it's a month old. Nice that it worked out and congrats on the house and the score bump ![]()
