The effect of 1 inq on EQ

Got an SW alert today, saying an inq had been added to my report (yesterday, and it was.

It also said my score was unchanged at 799.

So in theory, adding 1 inq when I had zero on the report had no effect on score.

Hmmmm

And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: The effect of 1 inq on EQ

When I apped for my HSBC card last month the same thing happened to me.

No inquiries on EQ for over 6 months, then this one inquiry and my score did not drop. I dare to presume that one, or two inqs may not hurt a score. Then again, SW may have just missed a drop in the score...

I'm not sure what bucket I'm in but I just had one inq age past 12 months on EX leaving me with only two and my score jumped up 17 points.

I do not know much, only what I have read on these forums, but I gather that one action does not cause the same amount of point decrease as point increase. Point being, an inquiry may not cost you anything, but it may hinder you from reaching a higher score in your particular bucket, as time progresses and your positive activity continues, it makes for a higher "payoff" when the inq. does fall off.

Does that make sense?

Perhaps, but almost everytime I had a new inq, I would take a hit. It seems to be different for many. I think most in my bucket are not apping and by me doing so I am not doing something which will help my scores.

Hmmmm is right!  Are you sure that was the ONLY change in your CR?  The category of new credit should have resulted in a small hit.  It makes no sense to me.....

That makes sense as well...who knows with Fico.

I can't believe to this day someone hasn't stolen the formula for scoring and sold it to the highest bidder!

Pretty sure - it was yesterday that I got the inq and today the score. And there was no new credit reporting
