Thinking of sock drawing my Cap 1 card, how does this affect my Fico score?

I have 9 active accounts showing on Ex, EQ, TU 7 are mine 2 are AU. I've grown tired of Cap 1 post covid BS and I thinking of not using it anymore. What would happen I stopped using the card and only had 8 active accounts showing payment history instead of 9? I am more curious how Fico views a card that is not used anymore and not having payment history? The Cap 1 has active and payment history for the past 6 years and 6 months.

As long as at least one card is reporting, I'm reasonably certain that the algorithm doesn't give a FICO whether there's activity on a specific card or not.  Or several

Now, it might make a small difference if you were to *close* the card, and three cards reported a balance instead of two; the algorithm does ding you if more than 1 in 3 cards report a balance.

I don't believe any FICO scores would take into account your usage of the card.  As long as it reports a zero balance it will just look like a zero balance card.

But if  you don't use the card at all Capital One will eventually close it.

Take the name away and its a revolving credit account that helps make up your score. Everyone has a card they probably dont need anymore from rebuilding and such. Me included. If its your oldest keep it. But its up to you. Isnt hurting you but helping you with a thicker file and age.  Some as you've seen will open a card just for padding. JMO. 50/50

It is my oldest card since my rebuild 2 years ago, it also has an ok CL of $7k. I am no longer going to use the card but will put reminder on my calendar to use it every 6 months.  Thanks for the info

I know there isnt a lot of Cap1 fans here. But its doing you wonders having it in a rebuild. You see below after BK what I had. Once better things came along with Cap1 as I started my rebuild. Of they went. And 7g's is awesome 2 yrs into rebuilding with Cap. In time other creditors down the road will see you can handle higher limit cards and it may help you with higher SL's down the road. I started with the Plat at 2k and QS1 at 3k. Then the 3 below were 10k a piece. So no harm no foul. Nice job on the rebuild BTW.

You don't have to use a card to have 'active' payment history reporting to the CRAs. People sock drawer cards all the time that they've outgrown, but still want the age of the account. Whether you use a card in a particular cycle or not, if the account is in good standing, you get a 'pays as agreed' reported for that month. Just make sure to put some activity on every account every 6 months or so to avoid an account being closed due to inactivity.

@FireMedic1Sorry I think you misunderstood me, I started my rebuild back in 2015 when I got the Cap 1, it has taken me 6yrs+ to get that $7k CL. Dont get me started on how I think it should be more, I dont care anymore as B of A, US Bank, have given me $13.5k CL. My other cards I will be there at some point

I went by this upthread. "It is my oldest card since my rebuild 2 years ago, it also has an ok CL of $7k."

Re: Thinking of sock drawing my Cap 1 card, how does this affect my Fico score?

My Cap 1 is my oldest card and have sock drawered it due to no rewards, no CLI, and low limit.

Recently did receive a measly $500 auto CLI but that won't get me to spend since any amount over 10% of the limit will be a utilization issue.

I'd rather use my brand new X1 Card with a credit limit of 21K.  At least I can spend up to 2K and not hit 10% UT.
