Re: This all adds up to one point....

9 years is a long average age considering paid loans will eventually drop off. I think the FICO high achievers average between 6 and 12, so you sit pretty smack dab in the middle of the prime group.

How long does a student loan account persist on a credit report after it has been paid off?

Any positive account reports for up to ten years after it is closed, as a general rule.

SLs seem to be the exception to the 10 year rule. My student loan was PIF in early 94 and is still reporting strong, opened in 89.

My grad school loans, paid off circa 1995, have vanished from my reports.

Well, I will sit back and enjoy my Sallie Mae for as long as she is going to be there.

I know others have stated that their Sallie Maes are on for an extended period of time as well.

Any other opinions?

Re: This all adds up to one point....

My pre-consolidation loans fell off EQ after about 6.5 years from DOFD.  They are still hanging around on EX and TU -- with the last 90 day lates as Dec 01 and Nov01, respectively.  I'm ready for them to be totally 'poof' with EX and TU, since I get dinged for having too many accounts (42 and 40), and the SLs account for 13 on each.

They are long gone from all three from when they were opened under USA Group (1991-1997).
