The explanation of the FICO score shows a scale with negative blocks on one side and positive blocks on the other. My negatives were:
1) Recent late payment;
2) Overdue account;
3) Balance past due;
4) High credit utilization
The first three "negatives" were actually the result of one recent late payment. We chose to pay off the enitre balance of the account in full, then asked the CCC to remove the late, overdue, and past due items from the history, which they agreed to do!
How much will my score increase?
Depends how recent the late is and how many other lates you have. If this is your only late, and if the late occurred last month, for example, then expect a significant double digit gain. If a year old, and 30 days, then expect a small double digit gain. If 2 yrs or older, and 30 days, then there won't be much gain at all.
It was 2-3 months ago and the ONLY late on my record, ever. Hope you're right, llecs. I'll report back in early August with the increase, if any.
Sadly, like others on the forums, one CC company closed two accounts that my wife opened but never activated due to the recent "late" on my record. I should look to see if those ever hit my report...
Yep, a new 30 day can easily drop you 40-50 points off your FICO report.

Hopefully they didn't report.
