What gives with TransUnion?

Just got an alert...

"Your total retail trade balances has decreased from $2000 to $1800."  (A 0% promotional balance on my Best Buy card)

Too many accounts with delinquincy.  (IIB accounts from BK13 filing of April 2009)

Public record on file.  (SAA)

Score dropped from 666 to 660.

EQ reported the same balance change and went from 674 to 678.

No change with EX.

I've already accepted the fact that my scores aren't going to get a boost into the 700's until my EE dates... (10/1 for TU and 1/1 for EQ/EX)

Still, I can't figure out why TU lags 20+ points behind.  All my reports are the same, the only differences are the INQs on each... and EQ actually has more than TU.

FICO8 current as of : 4-17-24 EQ: 724 TU: 707 EX: 706

Re: What gives with TransUnion?

Different bureaus calculate things differently. They use tweaks to the formula.

My TU score has been 30 points below to 20 points above my other scores, then, for no reason, they will all be within 10 points for a month, then suddenly change again.

Why does a balance decrease cause a score drop? For the same reason that sometimes a balance increase causes a score increase. No idea. I know in the end, it seems to work itself out though.

I always figure that another account updated, even if it was without a change, just the update is what really drives the score change and the balance change is what drives the alert to notify you of the change even though it isn't what really caused a score change.

Re: What gives with TransUnion?

DH filed BK in 2010.  His TU score has been 30-40 pts below EX and EQ for over 2 years.  NOTHING we do seems to boost his TU score.  I even compared all 3 reports line by line and they are identical.  What is even more baffling, all his other TU scores are 40 pts higher than his fico 8.  His Fico 8 is 653.  His mortgage score is 694.

I don't understand TU either!

Re: What gives with TransUnion?

Thanks for the responses!   I can't figure it out either.

I will definitely update this thread with my new TU score in October when everything Ch 13 falls off my reports with early exclusion!

750+ is the ballpark I expect to be in!

Re: What gives with TransUnion?

My TU score lagged behind by 30 pts. They were showing an instsllment loan as revolving for me however. Once the loan closed, eq and ex dropped 30pts, TU went up 20. Brainiacs.

I have not been able to figure out the FICO secret sauce either...lol!  I think it may be the whole rebucketing thing that pushed your score down, but who knows?

The good news is once you get that BK off the report, you'll not only be in a different bucket, you'll be in a better boat! Smiley Wink
