why does when it is reported that my debt goes down that my score goes down seems like it would be the other way around

Take a close look at your credit report.   Compare it with your previous credit report.

 

If you want someone to theorize why your score came down, you would have to write us, telling us about all your  accounts.   Whether they are open, closed, in default, on time, late, etc.

 

There are many variables in a credit score.  One late payment can lower a credit score by 70-80 points if you're in the 700s.
