Timothy believes that FICO scoring only looks at the worst derog and how recent it is. If that's true, and you have a major that's worse than what was deleted, or one that's more recent, then I guess that's driving your scores.
But it does help to have fewer accounts with derogs. One of my dings is "multiple accounts with lates" --all three of them.
Sorry about your scores, but I guess you're that much closer! hang in there...
I have to admit that when I was a rank newbie last fall trying to drink from the fire hydrant of FICO scoring knowledge, the very first thing that I forgot was the tactic of diluting old bad credit with new good credit. I perhaps could have stopped a couple of accounts earlier than I did

Certainly your latest derog does have the greatest impact. And having fewer accounts with derogs--or, to be more precise, a smaller percentage of total accounts with derogs--does help your score. This is one reason I recommend against closing any account in good standing: if you ever do hit a rough patch and get two or three baddies, better to balance those against six or seven accounts in good standing versus one or two.
