equifax dropped 11 pnts. after dispute started!

Hi all, I hope someone can smack me with some knowledge!

I entered a dispute with equifax yesterday over 3 120 day lates on a forgiven student loan (100% disabled vet.).  got this today "Closed or paid account / zero balance Student loan Balance paid or being paid by insurance companyConsumer disputes - reinvestigation in progress"

my EQ dropped 11 points and im freaking out, I have been working so hard to rebuild.

Re: equifax dropped 11 pnts. after dispute started!

This happened to me with a Goodwill request to remove a 30 day late wiwth Cap1.  They treated it as a dispute and so notified the CRBs.  My scores dropped 8 points.  When there is a dispute over a tradeline it is excluded from the FICO algorithm during the dispute resolution process.  This can be good or bad for your score depending on the accounts effect on your scores.   You will recover these points and perhaps more when the dispute is resolved.

Re: equifax dropped 11 pnts. after dispute started!

Are disputes actually excluded from the scores? Because I have 20 accounts (10 defaulted (in last 6 months) student loans and brand new 10 collections all reporting monthly) being disputed right now on all 3 reports and not one score has changed...

It excludes it from scoring when the CCC notifies the CRAs it is in dispute. When an individual disputes with the CRA him or herself, I THINK it only excludes it the first time, not subsequent times, because it's already been verified and does not necessarily have to go thru the full dispute process at the CRA in subsequent disputes.
