interested to see what happens

have a 710 score and just paid off (but did not close) $19k in revolving cc debt. the payment record on the debt was perfect and over a long period. My score was affected by some state tax liens which i paid off years ago. I also just moved my family plan from Verizon to AT & T and AT & T did check my credit (even though I've had a land line with them for 30 years and never missed a payment and basically screamed at the At &t rep about it - so sue me I wanted an I-phone).

I'm anticipating all this to hit and update at month end.   Paying off debt balanced against a new inquiry?  Whats my score going to do?. Inquiring minds want to know?

Where did you get the score from and which CRA is it? Was your score 710 before you paid off the debt?

In paying off the $19k, does this mean that you have $0 CC balances? Congrats, BTW.

What was the total CLs in association with the balances?

Not enough info to predict a change based on the balances alone. Score change is based on the individual balances in relation to the CLs. For example, if you had $190,000 in CLs with $19k in balances, then you might see 10 points. If you paid off $19k in balances against $19k in CLs, then you may have gained 100 points.

Are these public records still reporting?

The new inquiry should be no more than 10 pts, and will go away after one year. Not significant.

As has been said, your overall % util will improve, but how much depends on the CL on that card.

It also depends on your % util of other cards, for FICO scores overall % util, and % util on indiv cards, as well as the percent of cards carrying balances.  If you have another low CL card, such as a $300 CL HSBC, and have it charged close to its limit, which is easy to do, your gain in utilization might be almost entirely offset.

It is not a one change game.
