score drop question

I had an 802 score.  Six days later it dropped to 798.  There was no change on any account, balance, utilization, query whatsoever in those six days.  When clicking on "further details" it said "short credit history".  It's the same 33-year credit history as it was six-days earlier.  Now, this score dropped me from "exceptional" to "very good".  Anybody else have any insight into why this happened?

Re: score drop question

First, what's the source of your scores?

Second, don't get caught up in those "exceptional" or "very good" fluff colors or charts provided to you by a CMS.  If we're talking FICO scores, there's absolutely no difference between a 798 and an 802 in terms of what that score can get you.

If your FICO score dropped 4 points, it's due to a change on your CR.  You'd have to compare your CR both before and after to try and find the change.  It could be something not so obvious.  For example, perhaps you had a 15 year old closed account that has been closed for 10 years and it just fell off your report.  That change could drop your AAoA enough to result in a 4 point drop.  This is just one example/possibility, but there are many others.  I would also look to number of accounts with balances reported both before/after, as that's quite often the cause of a small FICO score shift such as this.
