Have been reading about all the good scores from the recent wallmart fico scores released on the 4th--decided to pull mine up and credit karma. I know I am going to get killed for this by all the know it all credit experts about algorithm's and fakeo differences but!!!!! wallmart TU -08 score 778---credit karma 678--it's a joke--don't even consider credit karma as a guiding tool. Thanks I feel better!
It's been stated lots of times around here, Credit Karma is best used to just look for activity on your CR. I didn't think anyone actually LOOKED at the scores. ![]()
I assume this will get moved to the scoring forum, but in the interim:
The only "score" that matters is the one the lender you have applied to pulls. Since nobody pulls credit karma and almost nobody pulls TU08, NEITHER of these scores are that useful. This is especially true when it comes to credit cards. About the only lenders I know of who consistently pull unmodified FICOs are credit unions and USAA. The pull EQ, so knowing the EQ score available on scorewatch can be helpful if applying to those lenders. Plain FICOs are also somewhat useful for mortgage applications, but even then a lender is more likely to pull TU04 than 08.
Just over the last week in this forum, I have seen someone report a decline from Chase based on an ex Vantage score, someone post a credit-enhanced eq from Discover, someone post an internal risk score from Amex and somebody else report what appears to be a TU Vantage from Citi. AFAIK, none of the big 4 issuers (citi, chase, amex, discover) are routinely using raw FICOs any more. So honestly, unless you are trying to hit a particular mortgage threshold or are applying for a CU/USAA card/cli, ALL of the scores you guys report are "for entertainment purposes only".
Credit Karma scores for me tend to be like really hot strippers.
Fun to look at from a distance but up close you can see how fake they really are.
Like folks have said, use Credit Karma as a free TU looksy to see who is peeking, reporting and generally mucking about with your TU report, and not much else.
Do NOT give your TU report to a really hot stripper though, ![]()

Mine pretty much mimmicks yours.
FYI... CK does not include closed accounts while figuring your AAoA. Only open accounts are factored in.
Also they only include the monthly payments for 24 months, not the full 7 years.
just got my paypal approval letter today--says tu score is773--is that tu98? wallmart tu-8 was 778?
I like credit karma. It has my scores like 80 pts higher than my fico scores. Too bad I went by their scores and recommendations when applying for a Chase Freedom. If I had known at the time that their scores had absolutely no relation to my real fico scores I would never have applied for Chase Freedom as I was nowhere near the range of scores needed for approval in the real world. CK had my fako scores at right around 700 whereas walmart score is 520.

Dewdrop replies:
i had an application declined by Chase a little over a month ago and the score that was quoted to me was explained as being on a scale up to 990 so it might have actually been a vantage score they used. I have the letter and can scan it in to prove it to you if you wish. It was an EX score but not a FICO maybe a proprietary cc enhanced score or a vantage score so the report you got may have been accurate.
CK only includes the AAoA of open accounts.
They only include payment history for 2 years, hence you can get a 0 derogatory statement from them have dones of 3 year + lates.
