Problems with replies when Mods move messages

This quite possibly doesn't happen often enough to make it worth addressing, but I was typing a response to someone today and when I went to submit the reply, I was told I couldn't post in a read-only area.  It appears that a Mod locked the thread and moved it to a different area while I was typing my response.  This means that my response was lost, and if I still want to help the OP, I have to type the whole thing again.  Perhaps I should compose things in a separate Word document and then paste when ready to post.   Anyway, not a huge deal, but I don't really feel like retyping the post, yet I do want to help people with their questions.

Can't tell you how many times this has happened to me, too! Smiley Very Happy And frequently, my would-be reply starts out with something like, This post would do better on such-and-such board.

Every now and then, I think to copy the post before hitting the button. (Too lazy to paste it into Word; it just stays on the Clipboard, I guess.) If the original gets moved, I can then slap the reply on the new location. But it's certainly not something I do automaticly, mainly because I rarely remember until it's too late. Smiley Tongue

Re: Problems with replies when Mods move messages

OP, I hated that too. In my pre-mod days, there was a moderator on here named Sidewinder. It seemed like everytime I was on these forums posting, there was Sidewinder moving a post just as I finished typing my response. It got so annoying that I would log in just to see if he was on and would only reply if he wasn't. If I thought he was on, I would always copy the post before replying. I lost many a posts because of moving threads.
