Myfico.com score not accurate

I am trying to close on a house. I checked my Transunion score 0n 08/08/09 and it was "608". I waited till 08/16/09 and checked it again. It was "583". I was pissed and shocked at this! The only thing that changed was an account which I had settled back in March finally zeroed out from my account. The thing that really makes me mad about that, is that the account was settled in March and reappeared last month with the remaining balance as if I just made a big payment. This was obviously a problem with the bank. I called Transunion to ask them why the drop in my credit and as usual they make excuses and don't help. The lady told me she wasn't allowed to tell me my score, but that my score was over the needed "620" at the time I filed the dispute a month ago. She said that maybe the company I am getting my info from is using a different system then them. Something about the batch score or whatever. So now I don't know what to do. I have spent over $200 on MyFico.com thinking I was getting a true score when obviously that is not the case. I am going to call myfico tomorrow and I expect a refund of some sorts. Why do they claim they have true scores when they don't? I am outraged. how can a score go down that much when an item is zeroed out? Now I doubt I will be able to close.

Re: Myfico.com score not accurate

Any score purchased via myFICO.com, as the name suggest, is a FICO score. Specifically, the TU score purchased through here is a TU98 score. If you purchased scores from any other source, including directly from TransUnion, then you do not have a FICO score. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

If the CSR from TransUnion told you your score, she did not give a FICO score. TransUnion does not sell FICO scores. They sell a non-FICO score called either a TransRisk score (sold by TrueCredit, CreditKarma, etc.) or a VantageScore. Lenders generally don't use these scores. Ignore them. She was giving you some bad advice.

If you pulled a TU FICO here, from this website, of 608 and then a 583 also from this website, then your score did obviously drop. Why did it drop? Hard to tell from the info you provided, but a dispute can drop your score in certain situations. Also, settling an OC debt could also drop your score. Settling your only unpaid CC, for example, can also drop your score.

What scores did your lender provide? BTW, generally, a 620 mid-score is needed, rather than all 3 being above 620. If 2 of your 3 FICO scores are above 620, then you're likely past that hurtle.

Re: Myfico.com score not accurate

I agree with the first statement. No new inquiries no negatives, my credit card lowered two points when the credit limit was raised... Still a 0 balance. . Than i had a litigation appear on my account that took 40 pts away when applying for a morgage but when it was takin off my fico showed the score go down. Bunch of morons
