Back in my credit dark days, I would frequently get CFL offers and once in awhile took advantage of them. I just got an offer from a CFL company saying that my credit was too good to have multiple balances (I don't) and offered me a loan telling me that offer was too good to be true. They even lied and said that payment is based on a 13% interest rate. Marty math says 72 * 301 on 15k loan is a wee bit higher then 13% but whats a few % interest between those who have my best interests at heart. So it seems CFL companies want preditory loans on people of all types of credit.

So it is so easy to just give up on someone these days. It can take a person 7 to 10 years to get out out bad credit so it may be a long term gig to help someone. So many people gave up on me back in my credit dark days and I had to go it alone and maybe sometimes poeple need to hit rock bottom so they can crawl back up but giving up someone. Not on my watch.

I am was interested in getting a new PC and the company I am interested in uses Affirm as one of it's payment options. I decided to check them out since it was INQ free and was supprised that they offered a 15% APR to me when the rates are starting at 10%. Needless to say I won't be using them as my local CU credit card is 11% if I decided to buy and not pay upfront. For some reason they remind me of those CFL compaies that used to hound me in my subprime days.

When you are ready to buy, take a copy of your credit report to a local credit union and ask them. They may not give you an idea unless you apply but if they do it won't cost you an INQ. I would not go car shopping unless I had a pre-approval first.

I was in a DMP years ago and since then I had no issues in getting credit from any company, even ones that I had in the DMP program and even one that I had a major derog with. I haven't applied with Wells Fargo or Citibank but even if I did and they denied me, there will always be a major bank and or credit union that will approve me. DMP (not settlement) programs work and don't affect your ability to obtain credit afterwards.

Barclays Is an odd duck. They recently closed my card due to lack of use yet they did auto CLIs while there was a little use and no CLI at all until it was PIF.

If you are a member of a local CU, I would check with them as well. In the long run I get better rates at my local CU on all cars, not the ones that have the special rates.

I didn't have a wedding. When I got married we just went to a small wedding chapel in Vegas. Weddings are for the families, not the bride and groom. Save money an elope. That will allow you to see who your true friends and family are.

Try just one account at 1% util. One that has been reporting recently. Random thoughts: A car loan that is not PIF Score bucket effect? An account reporting that hasn't for awhile (not sure if this affects FICO score as too not reproting for awhile)? It is so much more work to keep an 850. If I forget to watch reporting balances I loose it faster then a late payment would.

As lonng as there is no AF, I would never close a CC. Let it age and help your profile. Back in my credit dark days, a $450 limit Samsclub and gas card card got me through some rough times.

It looks like PayPal just started reporting to the CRAs back in May. I got an alert from MyFico that my CC balance increased. It was fun while it lasted to have a credit line that didn't report to the CRAs.

It's not going to just end with your mom, he will move on to other family members or other people. Your mom is making a mistake in not reporting him to the police. She will actually be helping him by having him areseted.

Pain is a great motivator. Once you friend gets there then they will be ready to seek your help and or wind up in the forum here. At some point he will want to borrow money or ask you to cosign which of course you will turn in down. At that point he will be on the road to credit hell and then recovery. After he gets a clue you can refer him back to these posts as eating a little crow or humble pie never hurt anybody.

Form their website: We have a company culture of ethics, compliance and issue resolution when offering effective approaches to alleviating debt. Way too funny. They even have alleged testimonials from victims of their ethical approach to debt collection. Based on your relationship with your mother in law, I might be tempted to let them take her in lieu of payment. Seriously if I were your in laws, I would take all legal means possible to sue them in court for harassment . Were I live small cliams court is $89 and you might get a judge that would issue a verdict in their favor.

From my experience, lenders tend to forget past sins as long as your scores are were they would like them to be. Even AE and BofA forgives and forgets but I don't know how long it takes for them to do that. With good scores you can always find lenders that will give you the credit you need. Local credit unions are a great place for all your credit needs and in most cases offer better rates and terms.

My first CC was a JC Penny card. I wish I still had it as it would have been 40 years old by now. Used the right way, store cardss can help you build your credit profile and also get you some great deals too.

Just got a credit denial letter from the dealer saying they couldn’t find a lender who would approve the loan. They said my credit score 875 out of 900 and my loan blances were too high except that I had a couple of hundred dollars on a CC report at 1% and my car has positive equity of a few grand which they offered to PIF. I had canceled the deal a day after visiting them and that was couple of weeks ago. They knew my local CU offered me a better rate then any of their lenders but I was surprised to see this denial. Not worried since when I’m ready to buy I suspect my local CU will be more then happy to finance me along with many other lenders. Could my score been too high for the? I can’t believe such a thing could happen

I went to a car dealer to look into leasing a Genesis G70 and figured with my credit score and having money to put down and 5k equity in my car, I would get a good deal and they would fall over themselves to sell me a car but I was wrong. First off they offered me only $300 equity in my car because of "hail damage", which I couldn't even see. Next they wanted me to put down $1000 more then the advertized lease offer and charge me $200 more per month as well. Yeah I guess the saw me coming. All that work I put into my credit score and yet I get treated the same as when my scores were bad. I know they probably did me a favor in the long run and I really don't need a new car but it still was sobering to find out that all that work didn't make it any easier to get a better deal or at least the advertized one.

Once you move, I would join a local CU and start to establish a relationship with them or if possible, join one there now. Rebuiliding takes time but it will work once you complete it. Also post military employment is your best tool in rebuilding so plan now on what that will be.
