So I withdrew my checking account today (which wasn't a huge sum) and we are filing tomorrow. I just wanted to know should I cancel direct deposit of my paychecks?
My situation is I have about $30K in medical debt and probably only about $6K in consumer debt. After having a big surgery in January 2011 and then losing my job in Dcember 2011, it has been a rough couple of years even though I am making good progress in bouncing back. I have been working for 2 1/2 years to modify and finally was approved for a HAMP mortgage a couple of weeks ago and just sent my first trial payment. My attorney advised me last summer to try and work out the modification, then move forward. I was served last monday on a big collection, so we are filing now.
Thanks for any advice!
Before I filed, on advice of my attorney, I opened a new account at a bank I had no debt with, and one he said was known for not closing accounts due to a BK.
I would do that if I were you, open a new account elsewhere and verify your direct deposit is lowing there before filing.
I don't owe any money to the bank my account is at. I only hold a checking and savings there.
