AMEX Recon

Hi everyone. Recently I got an offer from AMEX to apply for their SPG card. I jumped on it because I had been watching this card for a while now. I have been using my current AMEX card as my daily and been charging a lot to it. I just went on a business trip and put everything on there so I could take advantage of the points. SInce I have been using it so much, I have been sending in muultiple payments back to back to back just to keep the utilization low. I have always paid in full before the closing date. 2 weeks ago my wife charged $200 on my card and so she submitted a payment, via the app, from our joint account to cover those charges. Turns out she put in the routing number incorrectly so I get an email from AMEX saying that the account could not be located. No big deal. I had just paid $250 the day before her and $300 the day after. So i get a denial for the SPG stating the denial was for a returned payment within the last 30 days. This really wasn't a returned payment though. The money was in my account. The routing number was wrong. And not only that, the payment wasn't even due. I have given over 10 payments in one month so my utilization is super low. I don't see why they are treating this as a returned payment or bounced check.

I called the recon number and I was told that the staff who works with recon's do not speak to customers. Is this true? I want to speak to the person who will be making the decision on the credit card not someone who is simply inputting notes. And not only that but the 2 reps I spoke to last have obviously been from outside the USA. I honestly prefer to speak to someone stateside who I am confindent would not misinterpret what I am saying. Can anyone clarify whether or not AMEX even has a recon number. The rep said no number exists but that he could submit my application to a certain department to reconsider it but that I am not allowed to speak to them. This seems hard to believe. So just wanting to hear if anyone else has had this experience or is you all have the current recon number.

My app is currently pending once again but just to clarify, I did not speak to anyone who can make the decision on the spot. I spoke to a rep outside the US who input notes into his computer for someone else to read while they reconsider the applicaiton.

Just purchased my 3 FICO scores last week and they are as follow: TU 710, EX 716, EQ 698. Again, they offered the card to me.

I current have the BCE and in only January and February I already received $126 cash back and $75 statement credit via their promotions so I use there card a ton! I plan on running between $27-32k on the SPG yearly if I get approved round 2.

Re: AMEX Recon

You called the correct number it sounds like. The person is outside the U.S. and you cannot speak directly to the credit analyst; rather, you speak to someone (ideally a supervisor) who will input the notes. If the only denial reason is the returned payment, this decision should be overturned. However, if there is any other reason, the decision will almost certainly stand, especially since its Amex.

And Amex 99.9% pulled EX for you––your highest score. Let us know what happens.

Re: AMEX Recon

Thanks for the reply. That is the only reason that was provided to me from AMEX for the denial. And hey, it was them who reached out to me with the offer. They actually did not do a hard pull according to the rep. He said they went off the info they already had on file for me from soft pulls. And I have a paid account with EX which doesn't show that my credit was pulled so really sounds like they didn't.

So just to confirm, you are saying that AMEX does not have credit analyists who reconsider your application and are available to speak to the consumer?
