Prequal for additional AMEX for current cardholders??

So since I think that I'm not gonna get in with Chase with a UR card (see my other post), I think the the next best thing for me is to get an Amex MR revolver in my portfolio, and focus all my efforts on MR points. I currently have an Amex Plat and an PRG charge cards. But, ever since I became a cardmember the pre-qual site recognizes me as such, lets me browse the cards etc but I dont get a confirmed prequal offer.

I have heard its a SP to apply, but a HP if approved, but I don't know how accurate that is. I wonder if the online chat would lead to some sort of prequal.

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks,

George

It is a SP if declined, a HP if approved - most of the time, but not guaranteed. When I apped for my SimplyCash, both a soft pull and a hard pull showed up with the soft pull hitting first.

Gotcha. But there's no way for a current cardholder to tell if they are pre-approved for an additional card before apping right??

That was my question.

Well you can check the pre-approval link and it will have you sign in if current card holder. However i feel that link never works when your signed in or already a member.

If your a member already what you should do is, sign into your account. Click view all credit cards and apply. This way it knows your a member, the computer should also know with your SSN also. 1

Yes pre approval makes u sign in once it realizes u have an Amex already, and then its no different than when you sign in to the site without going through the pre approval.

Right I can login and click on view all cards, and it invites me to apply now, but to basically every product they offer with various bonuses....

It even has a button that says add someone to my account for the two cards that I already have.

Take care,

George

You can log in to your account and go to the benefits link. This appears in mine:

Re: Prequal for additional AMEX for current cardholders??

Well, here's my Amex Journey so far....

8/27 - got Personal Plat with 100k MR bonus offer w/3k spend - Spend complete 100K MR points showing as pending.

9/29 - got Personal PRG with 25k bonus offer after 2k spend  no AF for first year - Spend completed - waiting for MR to show up as pending.

10/09 - apped Everyday Revolver - 10k MR bonus with 1k spend - no AF. - app went to in process and has been sitting there for 3 days. we shall see what happens. I haven't gotten a HP for it so the SP if denied theory may be correct.

Lets see what happens...

Take care,

George

why didnt you go for the ed incognito offer? They are 25k-30k! why didnt you go for the PRG 50k offer too?

You should be just fine unless your scores are marginal or have bad remarks, etc.... but you sure missed out on 35k+ points!

I added PRG, ED, and Delta gold all in a 30 day period.

Also you could be combining inquiries. (1 credit, and 1+ charge cards)

It has been my personal experience that I NEVER saw any special offers. They seem to be targeted to non members, or members who have been so for years.  Best to research myfico or reddit and go for offers that pop up in a inprivate/incognito browser.
