I hear you on the odd amount. I actually started at $50k requested and backed it down in $1000 increments to $40k and then started with $500 increments at $39.5k downward until I got an instant approval at $35k. I was actually happy they didn't approve me at a X.5k amount as it would drive me nuts for the next 6 months. I must say it was absolutely hilarious when I got a stack of 20 Amex CLI denial letters in my mailbox on the same day, one for each value that I submitted that wasn't approved. LOL.
My spend/payment pattern hasn't and won't change. I always show the card a good $2k-$3k of use in the 3 or so cycles leading up to a CLI request with Amex. I would like to hear from others that have possibly been in my place already, though... I have heard of people on this forum, in this thread even, pushing their limits to $40k-$50k without ever being hit with IV. I'm not sure if these people just had dramatically higher incomes, higher spend (and payments), or if they just took their time and Amex allowed them smaller increases every 6 months without hitting them with IV. I wish there were more data points on this subject with Amex cardholders that have had their card for 1.5 years or longer and have actively tried for CLIs at every possible point.

I wonder if the best strategy once you get to $30k is to just request $5k more every 6 months.
I also wonder what income they want to see at certain levels, i.e .how much income should one have to get approved for $50k, $60k, and so on?

Most, on here at least, are so neurotic about the possibility of having left something on the table that they'll max it out each time, accepting whatever they eventually get. That being said, going up, say, 5k every 6 months sounds like a hugh waste of time... IMO...
Also, if I go from 2k to 6k , then 6k to 18k, what's the max I can go to from 18k without triggering 4506T?

It varies... Some will trigger it at 24-25k, some 30k, and some even higher... It depends on the credit profile of that person
Well, I'm definitely bummed. On day 61 I requested my 3x CLI. 7-10 day message. I know I just squeaked by in the approvals with a $1,000 SLI, but no dice for me. I then tried for $2,000. Still got the 7-10 day message. I'll try to recon tomorrow. Would I just call the number on the back of my card?

Honestly, only call if you wish further disappointment.
A 1k SL with AMEX is kinda like a "Here kid, let's see how you handle this. Do well and we'll give you more later on". Wait til the 6 month mark, using your card heavily and making regular and frequent payments during that time and you'll see the patience pay off quite nicely.
What is a 2k SL on a BCE then?

Why do you say that? What's wrong with a $5k CLI every 6 months to a card that's already got a monster limit? I'm not sure how that's a waste of time.
