Have been reading these forums for a few months now and thought I would post my own success story, and maybe help someone in a similar situation.
I am a college student (22 years old) and recently got my first credit card, the Journey from Capital One with $300 back in June 2016 (6 months ago). I kept my utilization below 10% and always paid off my entire balance once the statement came out. In October I also had a $3,000 student loan added to my account.
After 5 months of having the card, I got a CLI to $750 and my FICO 8 and Credit Karma (TU and EQ) scores all went up to 693.
I decided I wanted a second card, and wanted to start my history with Amex. One of my friends reccomended the BCE, and after reading up on it, I decided that would be the card.
So last week I applied for the BCE with an annual income of $15,000 (student) and a score of 693, 2 total accounts, 1 hard inquiry, 5 months avg. age of credit, 0 baddies, and 100% on-time history. I was immediately approved for $1,000! And plan on hitting the 3x CLI in 61 days.
A few days later I was reading on the forums about the opportunity to upgrade a CapOne Journey to Quicksilver. So I initiated an online chat with customer support and they were able to upgrade me to the Quicksilver with a $0 AF and foreign transactions, and 1.5% rewards.
I have only had 6 credit card statements my entire life and now have an American Express card, and the Capital One Quicksilver on its way to me! I am very excited that with a very thin credit history, I was accepted for both.
