Re: How difficult to get approved for Sallie Mae Barclaycard?

I think Barclaycard is the worst.  I tried to apply for the Sallie Mae online and after I submitted the app, I got instantly approved for the US Airways.  (Some website developer needs to be fired.)

When I raged at the reps on the phone, they assured me I could cancel the US Airways after I got it and it wouldn't affect a second application for the Sallie Mae.  (So I closed the US Airways over the phone.)  Then I got rejected for the Sallie Mae because Barclaycard decided I had sufficient credit with them.  (Liars.)

I also found out Barclaycard reports your new account INSTANTLY, so now I've got an $89 balance on all my credit reports I need to figure out how to get rid of.  (I had already closed the account but its not updating on my reports.)  Needless to say I'm much happier with Chase, Capital One and Discover for not reporting newly opened accounts instantly.

Where can I find the platinum barclay online application? Or should I call to apply?

There isn't one. That same application first try to approve you for World MC. If you don't qualify it'll try to approve you for Platinum. If you still don't qualify for Platinum then it is a denial.

I assume then they don't need to do a second HP for the Platinum?

No. I applied last week and there was only one HP. The underwriting guidelines are supposedly the same, just if you get approved for less than $5k you get the Platinum I believe.

I see! I don't really mind getting a WMC or a lower one.. I just really want the 5% rewards.

I just called.. (some people said that you have to be a citizen or pr to apply in this post), just for anyone who cares, you just need a ss# and a U.S. address.. then you are qualified to apply.. and the requirements are the same.. just check for your credit reports and ect..

OK, great!  You can apply (and my interpretation was correct, lots of heat about that last year!)

Re: How difficult to get approved for Sallie Mae Barclaycard?

OK so does anyone know what the difference in the underwriting requirements are between the Rewards MC and the Sallie Mae card?  I am just confused as to why I would get an instant approval for the Rewards MC with the lowest APR and a 2500 CL and flat out denied for the Sallie.  Since the Sallie does seem to have a Platinum version, you would think I could have at least been approved with a low CL and high APR.  It has to be something in the criteria for one that's not in the other.  Any ideas??

Too many recent Inqs? Barclays is sensitive to that. I have heard that the Sallie Mae has higher requirements than the rewards, but since you got the lowest APR I'm assuming you got the excellent credit one.

I do want to apply, but I am still not sure if I can get it.. I mean.. Getting a platinum would be the best result for me I guess.. When I called, I also asked them which credit burea they work with most, they said that its TU (just like some people commented they usually pulled TU.)

I also dunno if I should apply through phone or do the online application. Any suggestion?

Re: How difficult to get approved for Sallie Mae Barclaycard?

If inqeries are the difference in criteria then that would make sense.  I do have a 697 TU FICO according to WalMart, but a boatload of inqeries.  I don't remember exactly how many on TU, but I am in the teens on all three reports.

I honestly sometime feel like I have "NO 5% CARDS" stamped on my reports somewhere.  I was denied the Chase Freedom and a week later instantly approved for the Chase Amazon.  Same thing with Citi.  Instantly denied for Dividend and instantly approved next day for Simplicity.  Citi did say I could PC once my intro APR was up so there's that.
