AU Question

It was my understanding that being an AU on someones account no longer offers any benefits in scoring... if so, why do people do it?

Just asking because my company was thinking of adding me to the CC , but if it won't help my credit reports I don't want to add their card. Especially since it always carries a HIGH balance.

Re: AU Question

Until FICO 2008 rolls out and everyone starts using that scoring model, the AU's can benefit from this loop hole.

Re: AU Question

FICO today and the new version (FICO 08) will still count AUs in scoring.

Somehow, they figured out a way to weed out the fake AUs from the real! Smiley Happy

Which beats the heck outta me since I can hardly ever tell when one of my kids is blaming the other for something they did!! Smiley Wink

Re: AU Question

I don't know but, all my credit cards are AU, and today for instance, AMX reported a balance increase and my score went down. I think they are already calculating.

Starting Score: 454
Current Score: 690
Goal Score: 750

Re: AU Question

Although the EX version of FICO 08 is being used on a tiny basis out there, nothing much else is going on, and it's definitely not being used for your myFICO scores.

Actually, this would be evidence that the AU card IS being factored in your scoring. When balances go up, scores generally go down.

If your AU cards are "legitimate" (from a spouse, etc.), they will probably continue to be used for scoring indefinitely. Nevertheless, you should get at least two cards in your own name. Stuff happens. Smiley Sad

The score boost from your AU cards should help you, but do realize that lenders can tell that these aren't *really* your cards. So don't get offended if you don't get huge CL's; just take what you've got, work it perfectly for 6-7 months, and then go on from there.

It's factoring in all three bureaus, so I DEF think it is being used somehow because it is legitimate AU. My score dropped three points because of the AMEX balance increase since yesterday.

Re: AU Question

My handy-dandy way of telling if AU accounts are still counting is to look at the age as reflected on my FICO score reports. Since the AU card is 7 years older than all the rest, and it's my oldest reporting account, it will be really easy to see if it stops counting!
