I currently have three cards with American Express (Green, Everyday CC and Premier Rewards Gold), and I am wanting to product change my Green Card to the Mercedes Benz Platinum Card. I know that if I apply for the card without doing a product change it comes with a 50,000 MR points sign up bonus after $3,000 in spend within 90 days.
My question is this; Will I be able to do a product change and get this bonus being that I have never had a personal Platinum before?
My history:
I started to rebuild my credit back in May 2014. I started with an auto loan from a local credit union. I got a Cap One card shortly after (Sept 14') and then a Store card (Nov 14').
I applied for the AMEX Green in January of 15' and got an Instant Approval and then 10 min later I applied for AMEX EveryDay CC and got an Instant Approval again.
2 weeks later I applied for the Premier Rewards Gold because the Green Card's points structure is non-existent. I got an Instant Approval again.
I have never carried a balance with my AMEX cards and I have always paid them before the statements were cut.
I have never asked for a CLI with AMEX, but AMEX did initiate an auto increase and sent me an invitation to accept it on my EveryDay card.
I have one other credit card with my credit union as well as a personal loan.
My AAoA is 1 year and this is all on my Experian file. I have no negative history, excellent payment history and my FICO is at 726 and Utilization is at 11%. I also got an increase on two of my cards last month (Cap One and Store Card) and they have not reported yet. My utilzation after this should be around 7%.
* I contacted Amex this past week about doing an upgrade and they basically said that I need to wait 12 full months before I can upgrade. There was no current upgrade offer. The CSR said that I can even inquire the day after my 12 months which will be the 10th of January.
Do I have a chance at receiving an upgrade bonus with the Mercedes Benz Platinum Card? If I do not, do I have a chance at being approved again for another application?
I currently have 7 inquiries on my Experian file, but it is squeaky clean.
I would appreciate any help ...

If you product change to the Platinum, you will not receive the bonus regardless of whether you have had a Platinum card before. That would be an end around applying the normal way. Won't work. If you want the MB card, apply for it.

Do you think that my chances of approval are good with my current profile? Should I wait until my new limits on my cards report? Thanks for your input.
I think your chances are very good. The underwriting criteria for the Platinum card is the same as the Green card. If you want to wait u till new linits report that's fine but probably won't make much difference.

I was Approved!!! I was not quite sure what was going to happen, but 10 seconds later... if even that... Approved! I called in to verify my sign up bonus ... 50,000 MR points after $3,000 in spend (90 days) and they confirmed it. I definitely like the MB card and I am glad that I went for it. I tried to switch my Green Card over to the Blue Cash Everyday card, because now I will have three charge cards (definitely ridiculous), but they said that they were two different products and that I could not do a product change. I am thinking of closing it, but I know that this will hurt my AAoA... What would you guys suggest? I mean... it's either keep it or close it... There is really no way around it.

Yea you can't PC a charge card to a CC or viceversa. As far as it hurting yourAAoA, that wouldn't happen for 10 years, since closed accounts in good standing remain for 10 years. I say if you have no use for it, then by all means close it.
+1
As a fellow 'Green card' holder, I honestly can't think of any reasons for you to keep it.
I'm actually planning on closing my own Green card before the AF comes due in April - in my case I have found that with generous limits on my credit cards, I have little use for a charge card at all (that's just me though). Some folks really like MR points, but I've not been able to find a use for them - cash rewards definitely work better for me.
In your own case with the Green, PRG and now MB, unless you have a specific need for keeping charges separate it's just more paperwork to keep up with.
Congrats on the MB card!

Congrats on the MB card!
Thank you! Yes, everyone has their own specific needs. Personally, I do not like carrying a balance on anything. I only let one card report a balance. Paying in full works for me. Yes, the Green Card is pretty bad and my annual fee is due at the end of this month. I will close it come the end of the statement cycle. Still... The Green Card was my first card with American Express and so it holds value in that sense.
