Barclays US Airways MasterCard

Just got approved for the US airways MasterCard through Barclays.

40k miles plus $99 companion pass.

Does anyone know if I can redeem the companion pass and miles on the same flight? Or do I have to purchase one full price ticket to utilize the companion pass?

the companion option requires a full ticket purchase before adding 1-2 companions for $99 each.

I used it last May for myself, sister and daughter to go to California.   Roundtrip was under $600 for the 3 of us.
