Discover Credit Card Application Question - Pending?

Hi Guys -

I just applied for the discover card via phone, while I am impatiently waiting for my experian credit report.

The person said that my application status is "pending"...What does this mean?  Is this mean automatic approval?  or the card I was applying for got denied, but another discover card may be right for me?  She said this was a soft inquiry as well, which makes no sense.

Pending means under review.  You application should have resulted in a hard pull.  If it was a soft pull that could be why its pending(LOL).   I think the CSR probably was just clueless about hard and soft pulls.
